Martinšćica is a village of about a hundred people in a bay on the west coast of Cres, south-west of Lake Vrana, the island's freshwater lake. Administratively it belongs to the town of Cres; the hamlet of Vidovići lies 2 km to the north up the hill, with a wide view over the Kvarner islands, and Miholašćica 2 km to the south. Next to the village is Slatina, a large holiday complex with its own beaches and cafés, and Martinšćica also has a small marina, an essential-oils distillery and a "Kastel", once owned by an Italian noble family named Sforza. The live webcam is run by Camping Cres Losinj from Camp Slatina; its caption reads "AC Slatina-Martinšćica-Cres", and it looks out over the beach towards the open water to the west. Winters on Cres are cool and damp and punctuated by the bora, which blows offshore on this coast; summers are hot and dry.
