Henne Strand is a holiday village on Denmark's North Sea coast in West Jutland, north of Blåvand and the Ho Bugt, set among dunes and heath with hundreds of thatched and wooden summer houses. A short road leads from the village shops and restaurants over the dunes to a broad, almost endless sandy beach that runs north and south as far as you can see. The live webcam, run by a local holiday-home agency, looks over the beach towards the sea. The coast faces west, so the prevailing westerly winds blow onshore and the North Sea swell rolls in over several sandbanks, which creates good waves for surfing but also strong rip currents; easterly winds come over the dunes and blow offshore. Swimming is safest close to the beach entrance in summer, when lifeguards are on duty, and the Danish flag system shows whether bathing is advised. Inland, the restored Filsø lake is a large wetland nature reserve popular with birdwatchers. The beach is wide enough for long walks and kite flying all year, and the dunes behind it are protected.
