Lauttasaari is an island about 3 km west of central Helsinki, where almost the whole shoreline is open to the public. Its kiters maintain this weather cam: the club Lauttasaaren leijalautailijat, known as Larukite, runs it beside a Windguru wind station, and live readings of average and peak wind, direction and temperature are printed straight over the picture of the bay. It is a spot for riders who can already look after themselves. The club says plainly that there must be no teaching or practising the basics here, because there are many rocks under the surface, and it sends learners to Kallvik, Hanko or Pori instead. Kiting at Kassari is not allowed during the swimming season, and the island's public swimming beaches are Kasinonranta and Veijarivuori. Launching and landing use the downwind part of the grass at the area known as El Kaislikko; read the rules on the Finnish sailing and kiting federation's site first.
