Finale Ligure, on the Riviera di Ponente between Savona and Alassio, is three places in one: Finale Marina on the sea, the walled medieval village of Finalborgo just inland, and Finalpia to the east, where the Castelletto beach lies. The Spiaggia del Castelletto is one of the free public beaches on a coast where most of the shore is let out to bathing establishments, a stretch of sand and fine shingle below the coast road, facing south. Finale is better known among outdoor people for what lies behind it: the limestone crags of its hinterland are among the most popular sport-climbing areas in Europe, and the trails above the town draw mountain bikers all year. The sea in front is usually calm in summer, with clear water for swimming and paddleboarding, while southerly and south-westerly storms in autumn and winter can bring real waves to this part of the Ligurian coast.
