Akumal Bay on the Riviera Maya, between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, a sheltered crescent of white sand behind a reef. The reef keeps the bay calm, so it is a swimming and snorkelling beach, known for the sea turtles that feed on the seagrass. The trade winds blow from the east. Sargassum can arrive on the beach in summer.
