Playa Langosta sits on the inner, northern side of Cancún's hotel zone, on Boulevard Kukulcán a few kilometres out of downtown, where the beaches face the calm Bahía de Mujeres instead of the open Caribbean. That orientation is what sets it apart from the long east-facing beaches further along the strip: the easterly trade winds blow along the shore rather than straight in, Isla Mujeres blocks most of the swell, and the water stays flat and shallow enough for children and weak swimmers on most days. It is a public beach with palapas, used as much by people from Cancún as by visitors, and neighbouring Playa Tortugas has piers for boat trips and the ferry to Isla Mujeres. The live cam on this page comes from Webcams de México and shows the sand, the moored boats and the bay, which helps on days when the outer beaches are rough or covered in sargassum and you want to know whether the bay side is clearer. Expect water around 26 °C in late winter and about 29 °C from August to October, the months when hurricanes are most likely.
