Kite beach at the head of the Gulf of Gökova, beside the small town of Akyaka. On summer afternoons a thermal wind funnels up the long, narrow gulf from the west, reliably enough that kiters plan whole holidays around it. The water is shallow and warm, with a sandy bottom near the river mouth. Pine-covered mountains rise straight up behind the beach.
