By local tradition the birthplace of the windsurfer: a long shingle beach at the entrance to Chichester Harbour. South-westerlies blow cross-onshore over a small Channel swell, and the harbour behind offers flat water for learners. Tidal streams through the harbour mouth are among the strongest on the south coast, so ride the open beach, stay off the bar and check the tide before launching.
