The sunny south shore of Kauai, where several reefs break in front of the Poipu resorts and Kiahuna Beach. It needs south swell, mostly from April to October, and the north-east trade winds blow offshore; winter is often small. The outer reefs suit experienced surfers, while the softer inside waves near the beach are where the surf schools teach. Turtles and monk seals are often on the sand.
