A small, sheltered beach break at the south end of Kalama Park in Kihei, on Maui's south shore, and the island's best-known place to learn to surf. It picks up south swell in summer, breaking softly over sand and some reef, and is often flat in winter. Mornings are best, before the afternoon wind gets up. Expect surf schools and plenty of beginners.
