Sainte-Marguerite-sur-Mer is a farming and coastal village in the Pays de Caux, about 10 km west of Dieppe, where chalk and clay cliffs drop to a pebble beach on the English Channel. Those cliffs are retreating quickly: their top has lost some 80 metres since 1930, which is why you should stay away from both the edge and the foot. Next door stands the Phare d'Ailly, a lighthouse rebuilt in 1955. On 19 August 1942, British commandos of Lord Lovat's No. 4 Commando landed here at Orange Beach to take the Hess battery during the Dieppe raid, and concrete remains still lie on the shore. This live webcam, from the Webcams des Côtes Seinomarines channel, looks from high ground across a green field to the village and the coast beyond, so the shoreline appears in the distance rather than up close.
