Ahrenshoop is a village on the Fischland, the narrowest part of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula between the Baltic and the Saaler Bodden lagoon, and it has been known as an artists' colony since painters settled here at the end of the nineteenth century. Galleries, thatched cottages and the Kunstmuseum Ahrenshoop line the village street, and the beach lies below the Hohes Ufer, a steep, eroding clay cliff that runs south-west from the village towards Wustrow. The live webcam looks from the top of the cliff over the beach access and the groynes out to the open Baltic. Wooden groynes break the beach into sections to slow the erosion, and they are a hazard for swimmers and boards in rough water. The beach faces north-west, so westerly to northerly winds are onshore and bring the biggest waves, and after autumn storms parts of the cliff can slip, which is why the edge of the Hohes Ufer should not be approached. In summer the water is calm on most days and the beach is guarded at the main accesses. On the other side of the village, the shallow Bodden is a quiet flat-water area for paddling and sailing. The sea is warmest in August. Check the Ahrenshoop beach webcam and the wind forecast below.
