A sheltered cove of white sand and clear water south of Shimoda, near the tip of the Izu Peninsula, and one of Izu's best-known surf beaches. Facing south, it picks up south to south-east swell, from typhoons in late summer and autumn especially, and a northerly wind is offshore. Beach-break peaks shift with the sand. It hosts contests, and is crowded at weekends when surfers drive down from Tokyo.
