The Arenal is the one long sandy beach of Xàbia, or Jávea, a town on the Costa Blanca in the far north-east of Alicante province whose other beaches are mostly rocky coves and pebble shores. It is a crescent of fine golden sand of around half a kilometre, enclosed by low rocky points, with a lively promenade of restaurants and bars behind it. The water is shallow and calm for a long way out, which makes the Arenal the town's family beach and a good place for a first stand-up paddle or kayak trip. Xàbia sits between two headlands, the Cap de Sant Antoni to the north and the Cap de la Nau, the easternmost point of the Valencian mainland, to the south, with the Montgó massif rising behind the town; together they shelter the bay from most winds. Easterly levante storms in autumn and winter can still send waves onto the sand. The area is known for one of the mildest climates on the Spanish coast and stays popular with year-round residents from northern Europe. The water in the bay warms from roughly 14 °C in February to 26 °C in August. The Arenal beach webcam looks across the bay; the forecast and sea temperature are below.
