Cherry Grove is the northern end of North Myrtle Beach, the last stretch of the Grand Strand before the North Carolina line, and it is quieter and more residential than central Myrtle Beach. Its landmark is the Cherry Grove Pier, a long fishing pier with a two-storey observation deck at the end, popular for spotting dolphins and for fishing contests; it was badly damaged by Hurricane Ian in 2022 and later repaired. Behind the beach lie the salt marshes and channels of Cherry Grove's inlet area, where crabbing and kayaking are popular, and Hog Inlet marks the northern tip. The live cam on this page is a Windy webcam on the Prince Resort beside the pier, and its daytime frames look down the pier over a calm green sea. The beach faces south-east, and on most summer days the water is gentle and good for swimming, with lifeguards and beach services along the main stretch in season; autumn storms and passing hurricanes bring surf around the pier, best on a north-west wind. North Myrtle Beach also prides itself as a home of the shag, South Carolina's state dance. The water is about 11 °C in February and 28 °C in August.
