Surfside Beach is a small town on the Grand Strand just south of Myrtle Beach in Horry County, South Carolina, and it markets itself as the Family Beach: lower buildings, a quieter beachfront and easy public accesses at the end of almost every street. Its centrepiece is the Surfside Beach Pier at the end of Surfside Drive, rebuilt by the town in concrete after storm damage, and the live cam on this page is the town's own pier camera, looking down the length of the pier towards the beach and the houses behind it. The beach is a long, gently sloping stretch of sand facing south-east, and on most summer days the sea is calm enough for swimming and paddleboarding, with lifeguards on the beach in season. The surf is usually small, but tropical systems and nor'easters in late summer and autumn bring rideable waves either side of the pier, best with a north-west wind. Beach rules include seasonal restrictions on dogs and tents, and glass and alcohol are prohibited on the sand. Garden City and the inlet at Murrells Inlet lie a few miles south. The ocean is about 11 °C in February and 28 °C in August.
