Noosa Main Beach is the sheltered, north-facing town beach of Noosa Heads, at the northern end of the Sunshine Coast, running in front of Hastings Street towards the mouth of the Noosa River. Because the headland and Noosa National Park block the prevailing south-east wind and swell, the water here is usually calm, which makes it one of the most popular family swimming beaches in Queensland and a good place to learn to surf. Around the headland lie Noosa's famous right-hand points – First Point, closest to Main Beach, then Johnsons, Little Cove, Ti-Tree Bay, Granite Bay and Tea Tree – which come alive when a cyclone swell or a strong east to south-east swell wraps into the bay; Noosa was declared a World Surfing Reserve in 2020. First Point is a gentle, long wave much loved by longboarders, while the outer points are more powerful. South-easterly winds blow offshore at the points. The beach is patrolled by lifeguards, and summer is the main season for cyclone swells. Check the surf report and water temperature below.
