Trigg Beach is in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, about 15 kilometres north-west of the city centre, and is one of the city's most consistent surf spots. It faces west into the Indian Ocean, and a limestone reef just offshore, around Trigg Island and Trigg Point, shapes the swell into reef and beach-break waves that work on the south-west groundswells of autumn and winter. Trigg Point at the southern end offers a right-hand reef wave for experienced surfers, with shallow rock that demands care; the beach to the north has sand-bottom peaks better suited to intermediate surfers. Rottnest Island, about 20 kilometres off the coast, blocks some swell directions, which is why Perth's metropolitan surf is usually smaller than in the South West. Easterly winds blow offshore, typically in the mornings, before the afternoon south-westerly sea breeze known locally as the Fremantle Doctor sets in, especially in summer. Trigg has a surf life saving club and patrols in season, and rips can form in the gaps in the reef. Water ranges from about 18 °C in winter to 23 °C in late summer.
