Spot info
- Town: Zeebrugge, Bruges
- Water: Sea
- Sports: WindsurfSUP
Zeebrugge is best known as the deep-water port of Bruges, yet it also has a seafront with hotels, cafés, a marina and a beach. This camera belongs to Surfclub Icarus, on the sand west of the harbour towards Blankenberge, and it looks straight down the beach and over the breaking waves. On a clear day you can pick out ships waiting offshore, a reminder of how busy this water is. The harbour breakwaters and shipping lanes are the main thing to respect: stay away from the port entrance and keep to the area the local club uses. Wind funnels along this open coast with little to stop it, and Storm Ciarán brought gusts of 105 km/h here in 2023, one of the strongest readings in the country that day. On ordinary days the appeal is simple, a long stretch of sand with room to rig and a straightforward run to the water. Trains and the Coastal Tram stop close by. Hold the live view up against our wind figures and sea readings before you pack the car.
