Zoutelande is a small seaside village on the south-west coast of Walcheren in Zeeland, and its beach is often described as the only one on the Dutch coast that faces south-west rather than west, giving it more sun through the day. The village became famous across the Netherlands through the 2017 hit song by the band BLØF named after it. The beach lies below a high dune with a viewing point, and rows of wooden posts, the groynes typical of Walcheren, run out into the sea to hold the sand. The live webcam looks from a beach pavilion over the sand and the groynes. Large ships heading for the Western Scheldt and the port of Antwerp pass close offshore, which makes the view unusual. Because the coast faces the prevailing south-westerly wind, onshore days bring choppy waves, and with a good south-westerly swell surfers paddle out between the groynes; north-easterly winds blow offshore. The groynes and the strong tidal currents near the Scheldt mouth make swimming risky away from the guarded area, so stay near the lifeguards in season. Sea temperature in Zeeland peaks in August.
