Spot info

  • Town: Llangennith, Gower, Swansea
  • Water: Sea
  • Sports: Surf
  • Best wind directions: ENEEESE

Llangennith is the surfers' end of Rhossili Bay, the three-mile beach that forms the western tip of the Gower Peninsula near Swansea, the first area in Britain to be named an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Open to the west and to the full run of Atlantic swell coming up the Bristol Channel, it is the most consistent and best-known surf beach in South Wales: the long, flat beach gives peaks along its whole length and works on most states of tide, with something for beginners on the inside and stronger waves further out on bigger days. An easterly breeze is offshore. At the northern end the tidal island of Burry Holms is cut off at high water, and at the far southern end the headland of Worm's Head, also tidal, closes the bay below Rhossili village and its clifftop car park. Behind Llangennith's end of the beach are high dunes, a large campsite and the village, with its pub and a surf shop; parking is at Hill End. Rips run beside the rocks and between the banks, and lifeguards cover only part of the bay in summer. The sea reaches about 16–17 °C at the end of summer. We have no live webcam for Llangennith yet; the surf forecast and sea temperature are below.
