Spot info

  • Town: Seaton, East Devon
  • Water: Sea
  • Sports: SUP

Seaton is a small East Devon seaside town on the Jurassic Coast, close to the Dorset border, with a long pebble beach that curves between the mouth of the River Axe and the white chalk cliffs leading west to the fishing village of Beer. The beach shelves quite steeply, so the water gets deep quickly a few metres out; on calm days it is good for swimming and paddleboarding, while southerly winds bring a dumping shore break onto the stones that is better watched than swum in. The bay is sheltered from westerly winds by the headland at Beer. Seaton has an easy-going seafront with cafés and kiosks, one of which hosts the live beach webcam on this page, and the Seaton Tramway runs inland along the Axe valley. East of the river mouth the Axmouth to Lyme Regis Undercliffs, a wild landslip nature reserve, stretch towards Dorset, and the coast path through them has no easy exits. Sea temperature in Lyme Bay peaks at around 17 °C in late August and September. Watch the live webcam to see the state of the sea, then check the wind forecast and sea temperature for Seaton below.
