Falmouth Heights Beach is a town beach on the south shore of Cape Cod, in the Falmouth Heights neighborhood of Falmouth, facing Vineyard Sound with Martha's Vineyard on the horizon a few miles across the water. The beach runs along Grand Avenue below a hill of Victorian summer cottages, and it is one of the busiest beaches in town in July and August, with lifeguards, nearby restaurants and the Shipwrecked bar overlooking the sand, whose camera this is. This live beach cam looks out over the beach and the Sound. Vineyard Sound is sheltered from the open ocean, so there is no surf here; on most days the water is flat or lightly rippled, and it is warmer than the Atlantic beaches of the outer Cape, often around 22 to 24 °C in August. The prevailing summer southwest wind blows onshore in the afternoon, and windsurfers and kiteboarders use the Sound on those days. The ferry to Oak Bluffs leaves from Falmouth Harbor just to the west. In winter the water drops to about 3 to 4 °C. Parking along Grand Avenue is limited and much of it is metered or permit-only in summer.
