North Beach Park is an Ottawa County park on the Lake Michigan shore in Ferrysburg, just north of the Grand River channel at Grand Haven, Michigan, and it is the quieter neighbor of Grand Haven State Park across the river. The park is a wide sandy beach backed by tall wooded dunes, with a long stairway up to an overlook, a playground and a parking lot, and this live cam from Ottawa County Parks and Recreation is pointed west for the sunsets the beach is known for. To the south, the Grand Haven South Pier and its two red lighthouses mark the river mouth. Because the beach faces west across about 80 miles of open lake, it catches the waves built by southwest, west and northwest winds; fall storms bring wind swell that local surfers ride, especially near the channel, while summer days are mostly calm and good for swimming. The water near the river channel and the piers can run with strong currents when the waves are up, and Lake Michigan rip currents are a real danger, so keep an eye on the beach flags. The lake reaches about 21 to 23 °C in August, and ice shelves form along the shore in cold winters. Parking is paid in season.
