Wisconsin Point is the Wisconsin half of the great sandbar at the western end of Lake Superior, a wooded spit about three miles long that runs from the city of Superior northwest to the Superior Entry, the canal that ships use to reach the Duluth–Superior harbor. Across the entry lies Park Point on the Minnesota side. At the tip, the Superior Entry South Breakwater Light stands at the end of a long rock breakwater, and a gravel road runs the length of the point through pines and dunes past small parking pull-outs and sandy beaches. The point is also a site of historic and cultural importance to the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, who had a village and burial ground here, and parts of it were returned to the band. This live cam from the Duluth Harbor Cam family looks over the beach and the lake toward the breakwater. Lake Superior is very cold, often 10 to 15 °C in August, and fall storms from the northeast build steep waves and strong currents, especially near the breakwater. The point is undeveloped, with no lifeguards and few facilities, and it is popular for agate hunting, birding during migration and summer sunsets.
