El Quisco is a seaside town on Chile's Litoral Central, between Algarrobo and Isla Negra, about two hours' drive west of Santiago and one of the classic summer escapes for the capital. Its coastline mixes granite rocks, where pelicans and fishermen gather around the small caleta and its pier, with sandy beaches; the main town beach curves past palm trees and a seafront road from the caleta towards the Punta del Fraile rocks. The commune also includes Isla Negra, where Pablo Neruda's house by the sea is now a museum. The Pacific here is cold, generally 12 to 16 °C, and the open beaches can have strong waves and currents; some stretches are signposted as unsafe for bathing, so swim only in areas the municipality marks as suitable and lifeguarded in season. Pelicans, cormorants and sea lions are frequent visitors. The local channel sanantonioimagen, which streams from several points in the province, operates the live cam; it looks over the sand and palms towards the sea, a quick way to see the weather and the beach crowd. January and February are the busy months; in winter the town is quiet and the swell more powerful.
