Kennebunk Beach is the string of three town beaches along Beach Avenue in Kennebunk, on the southern Maine coast next to Kennebunkport: Gooch's Beach, the longest, Middle Beach, which is mostly stones, and Mother's Beach, a small sandy beach with a playground at the western end. This live beach cam from Boston and Maine Live is mounted at the Seaside Inn on Gooch's Beach, at the mouth of the Kennebunk River, and looks across the sand and the water. Gooch's faces south and is one of the few spots on this coast that holds a rideable wave, mostly on swell from passing hurricanes in late summer and fall and from strong nor'easters; north winds are offshore, and there is often a surfer or two near the river jetty when it breaks. On most summer days the water is calm and the beach is busy with families. Like the rest of the Gulf of Maine, it is cold, about 17 °C in August and near 4 °C in late winter, and the tide range is around 9 feet, so the beach changes shape through the day. Parking on Beach Avenue needs a town permit in summer, and lifeguards cover the main beach in season.
