Constantine Bay is a wide sandy beach a few miles west of Padstow, close to the lighthouse on Trevose Head, and it has a reputation as one of the most consistent spots on the north Cornish coast. Facing west into the Atlantic with nothing to block the swell, it often has rideable waves when more sheltered beaches nearby are flat. The flip side is power and currents: reefs and rocks frame both ends of the bay, strong rips run beside them and the beach is not the place for weak swimmers when the surf is up, even in summer when lifeguards are on duty. The best conditions come with an easterly wind and a moderate swell; on big days the waves can close out across the bay. Behind the beach are high dunes, a car park and a golf course, and the coast path links it with Booby's Bay to the north and Treyarnon to the south, both a short walk away over the rocks. At low tide the rock pools at the edges are rich in sea life. Water temperature reaches about 16–17 °C in late summer.
